Any woman that takes up Karate will learn about self-preservation through practicing a style of Karate that is a complete self defence system using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes and open-handed techniques, with emphasis on close-combat fighting. Other benefits include;

Speed reaction, mobility, endurance and strength – through practice, practice and more practice.

Confidence – Just going to a dojo for the first time takes confidence, every time you perform kata in front of your instructor or peers takes courage, and every time you go to the dojo your confidence increases and the other bi-product is raised self-esteem

In our dojo’s you will also learn many important foundation skills such as generating power, grounding, tension/relaxation and body evasion. Our Sensei’s (Instructors) will ensure that you train in a safe and controlled environment.

Usually we train in mixed classes, but we also recognise that some women prefer to train in a same sex environment, to that end although the class make up is different, the training, the techniques, the expectations of the instructors are the same, in that everyone tries their best.

The Birmingham Goju Ryu Karate Academy is a member of the Goju Ryu Karate-Do International (GKI) The GKI is headed by our Chief Instructor Shihan James Rousseau 9th Dan.
